Osimhen desperate for victory as Nigeria's Super Eagles face Rwanda

These are desperate times for Nigerian football and their main man Victor Osimhen believes it is up to players to step up and make their mark.

Group C of World Cup qualification is tighter than ever, with all sides in the group, seemingly in a position to qualify for the World Cup if they land solid results.

Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin have 7, Lesotho 5 with Nigeria and Zimbabwe bottom with three and two points respectively.

Osimhen knows what the value of a win and at the same time, a loss would mean.

"It takes more than a coach to win football matches. Players must also be at their best, show commitment, and bear in mind that we can all fly together to reach our goal,” he told Supersport.

"There's a new manager now, and we are desperately looking forward to the game against Rwanda to try to correct all the previous mistakes we've made and put ourselves in a better position to qualify, he added.

Nigeria boast a more impressive football history with three Afcon titles and six World Cup appearances.

However, matches against Rwanda have typically been close.

In the seven prior meetings, Nigeria have two wins, four draws, and one loss.

Notably, all three matches played in Rwanda have ended in draws, with Nigeria's only goal coming from Obafemi Martins during a 2005 World Cup qualifier.
